Good points, well made Junaid

I had similar sentiments following last years event which I hope you won’t mind me sharing here:

and then later in the year during London’s “EdTech Week” here

We have definitely reached a fork in the road with EdTech although, to be fair, this has existed since the 70’s.

In one direction there is the EdTech that believes education is instruction (the standard or traditional model) so to get better education we must improve instruction and we’ll use computers to do that (instructionism). In the other direction there is the EdTech that believes we can use technology to give children good things to do so that they can learn by doing much better than they could before (constructionism).

The problem is that the guardians of the status quo, i.e. the text book and measurement industry, have a $multi-billion dollar commitment to inculcating their facts and procedures into the heads of learners and then measuring them. Hence much of the financial investment is in using 21st century technology to deliver 19th century practice rather than using the affordances of this technology to reimagine education to prepare learners of today and tomorrow to thrive in this rapidly transforming world.

Finally I’d like to leave you with this and the reports that it links to

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts
