Very sorry to hear about your son Simple Truth and thanks for pointing out what’s happening in the US partly as a result of the for-profit charter school movement.
It is organisations like KIPP in the US that are providing influence and inspiration for school franchises in the UK and certainly the school that I referenced in my article who are hiring a “detention director” who expects children to be obedient at all times as if they were mannequins.
The founders of KIPP are closely related to the founders of Teach For All which in turn is funded by venture philanthropy from organisations like Omidyar Network. TeachFirst is the UK body inspired by and linked to TFA. The TeachFirst executive board comprises members from the UK right wing, pro-privatisation, think tank, Policy Exchange that does not disclose it’s funding but wields significant influence on UK government policy.
Together all of these organisations form part of the Global Education Reform Movement or GERM and this I believe is harmful for our children and the teaching profession.
